Job Description

The Pharmacy Technician – is responsible for assisting pharmacists in the preparation and distribution of drugs, medications, and intravenous admixtures.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Maintains sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for performance of duties and reports shortage of materials to supervisor in a timely manner
  • Assists the pharmacist in preparation and dispensing of medications and ensures that the medications are prepared accurately under the supervision of a pharmacist
  • Calculates and compounds the ingredients required to prepare extemporaneous preparations under pharmacist supervision
  • Performs dosage calculations for medication orders and undertakes multiple checks on prepared medications
  • Complies with local rules and regulations in regard to pharmacy activities, including but not limited to preparation, labeling, and delivery of medication and other pharmaceutical supplies
  • Follows appropriate procedures for dispensing medication prescriptions, as applicable
  • Maintains the required records of dispensing medication
  • Follows proper aseptic technique and intravenous room procedures in preparation of intravenous admixtures
  • Assists in the inspections of nursing units to ensure safe and secure storage of medications
  • Operates and maintains pharmaceutical equipment according to policies and procedures
  • Conducts checks and calibration of equipment as required. Recognizes, reports and advises on discrepancies in performance and initiate remedial action in the light of this information
  • Ensures that the equipment is used in the correct manner to obtain optimal results
  • Informs supervisor of equipment malfunction and/or need for repair
  • Maintains cleanliness of equipment taking into consideration general organization hygienic and sterilization rules and regulations
  • Participates in the medication distribution process as applicable
  • Provides drug information and education resources for patients, students, colleagues, medical and nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals
  • Responds to incidents, adverse drug reactions, medication errors, and report appropriately
  • Performs shift duties as assigned, including weekends and public holidays
  • Ensures safe and competent use of equipment, patient appliances and aids in their service area
  • Reports all incidents and complaints at service level immediately for appropriate action to be taken, as per the organization’s policy
  • Ensures that medications are stored appropriately and securely and maintains proper storage conditions
  • Ensures internal and external quality controls as applied in the assigned service area are within the required parameters
  • Complies with all regulations for environmental safety and infection control, amongst others
  • Ensures patient confidentiality
  • Ensures implementation of medication management and use policies and procedures related to their service area
  • Complies with all regulatory, safety and quality control programs and procedures for their service area as applicable, including but not limited to regulatory, licensing, accreditation standards, organizational policies, and procedures, etc.
  • Participate in staff meetings, as assigned
  • Maintains professional knowledge by attending lectures, seminars or on-line education courses
  • Keeps abreast of all developments pertaining to pharmaceutical care and other specialty related matters
  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies

In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra during this pre-operational phase, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.

Skills

Essential Requirements:

  • Vocational/Technical Education from an accredited school of Pharmacy
  • 2+ years registered or licensed practice after completion of primary qualification as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Valid professional Pharmacy Technician Certifications and license in the country of origin
  • Demonstrated to work in a detail-oriented manner
  • Extensive knowledge of pharmacological terminology
  • Great attention to detail and carefulness
  • Outstanding customer service orientation
  • Expert in mathematical calculations
  • Proven ability to follow written instructions and specific directions
  • Flexibility in managing schedules
  • Good supply management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

Preferred Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician program
  • Obtain State of Qatar Pharmacy License after onboarding.
  • Excellent clinical knowledge as it pertains to medication and disease management
  • Demonstrated ability to work with Pharmacy Information Systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
